Crash Models for Carbon Fiber Composites
Various models from the spectrum of current FEM-based modeling approaches are used to model the component crush behavior, including damage evolution, using the experimentally determined constituent and composite material properties, along with high strain rate material behavior under tension and compression.
The model evaluations are conducted using commercial FEM codes LS-DYNA, ABAQUS Explicit, Digimat, and model packages that are add-on products to these codes. The sub models include those that are already implemented in the commercial codes and the sub models that are available in the open literature.
